The city of Ayutthaya is the capital of the Ayutthaya province in Thailand. It's situated in the valley of the Chao Phraya River. Ayutthaya was the second Siamese capital following Sukhothai. The remnants of the old city are conserved in the Ayutthaya historical park, which is internationally recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ruins, marked by the prang (reliquary towers) and massive monasteries, provide a glimpse into the city's former grandeur.
