Le Havre was heavily bombed during the Battle of Normandy. The town's reconstruction was led by August Perret, who used reinforced concrete. This project resulted in the city being added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The most significant places to visit in Le Havre include St. Joseph's Church, the Cathedrale Notre Dame, the Maison de l'Armateur, and the Town Hall, which is situated on one of the largest squares in France.
